Blogger Interview: Alex from Fashion Bandit

Welcome to another blogger interview with the gorgeous Alex!

Ian Jamieson Photography

Hello! Please introduce yourself and your blog
Hello there! My name is Alex, but for the first year of my blog I was just known as Fashion Bandit. My blog is a personal style diary, cataloguing my fashion and beauty loves. My posts are a mixture or outfits I’ve put together, products I’m trying out and new things I’ve either bought, or am lusting after!

When did you start blogging and why?
I first started my blog two years ago to have a completely unrestricted creative space to chat about style. As a journalist I was working on a large regional fashion magazine and absolutely loved it, but wanted a blog to continue my fashion chatter.

What is your favourite feature on your blog/what posts are you most proud of?
My most read post ever is an outfit post I wrote more than 18 months ago called What I Wore: A Flower in Her Hair. Its popularity is down to the drastic hairstyle I’d just adopted – a serve undercut, for some reason I get a lot of people Googling that! My favourite post so far has to be, PinUp Girl For a Day, when I did a vintage pin up shoot with a local company.I was really nervous about posting the revealing pictures, but thankfully everyone was really supportive and I got some lovely comments.

Describe your styleMy style is a real mishmash! I love vintage clothes, and a love a bargain, so most of my outfits will feature something old and something new (nothing borrowed, and only occasionally blue, though!). I really like trying out different styles so one day I might have my hair rolled up in a retro style, with some bright red lippy and a dress, the next day I’ll be in military ‘work’boots, baggy trousers and an 80’s jumper with a headscarf.

What’s your favourite item of clothing
I can’t choose just one…I love my leather jacket, I have had it years and it is aging really well. I bought it in a sale at half price for £60, which was a real bargain, especially if we are talking price per wear! I also have a furcoat that belonged to my Gran, my Grandad bought it for her in the 60s and it is such a classic 60s shape. It has really sentimental value, as well as style!

What is your favourite highstreet shop and who is your favourite designer
I love H&M – I think when it comes to price and style they are great for girls on a budget. I am also a Primark fan, but don’t have one near where I live so just have the occasional spree. If the sales are on I’ll head to River Island to grab a bargain as their shoes are perfection. Talking of shoes, if I was made of money you’d find me in Kurt Geiger. Designer-wise this season, and next, I’d love to have a wardrobe full of Mary Katrantzou’s vibrant pieces!

Apart from blogging, what do you do?
I am a freelance journalist, social media consultant, copy writer, stylist and presenter. I did a degree in journalism before working on a wide portfolio of regional magazines and writing a newspaper fashion column. Now, through my company Creative Kick, I offer expertise to lifestyle brands and clients, and do everything from writing press releases and blogs for brands – through top resenting an online fashion TV show.

What is your dream? My dream is to be successful – I’m not sure doing what yet – as my freelance work is so varied, although I like that because boredom rarely comes knocking! Other than that living happily ever after with my fiancĂ© and cat is a good start.

Tell me a secret?
I was convinced to strip off for National Stockings Day last year. I paraded the streets of London with two other girlies in stockings forP R company, Nobull. Although it isn’t much of a secret – we ended up in the newspapers and all over t’internet…
