Review: Bourjois Rose Exclusif Lipgloss

I bought the Bourjois Rose Exclusif lipgloss a couple of weeks ago - I love colour changing lipsticks and glosses (see my review of Barry M touch of magic) so I had to try it out.

The lipgloss packaging is like the other Bourjois ones except you can't see through at the colour.

The applicatior is a pink brush (I prefer brushes over the hoof applicators!) and this allows it to be applied accurately

Here is a swatch when first applied on my arm and then after 5 minutes when the colour has developed. As you can see it turns very dark on me.

And here it is on my lips, firstly with a clear lipgloss, and seondly with the gloss developed for 5 minutes.

And finally, here's the image on Bubble Dreams that convinced me to buy it. I'm a bit dissapointed the colour turned out so radically different on me but I like the colour. If you google image search "Bourjois Rose Exclusif" you can see the range of colours you can get.

Saturday 60s Outfit and Face

Sunny weekend!! Yesterday I did nothing special, I cleaned the house, went to the dump and went to Homebase

I bought these green cushions and bought loads of green paint swatches! I think I'm going to go for the Olive (the far left) but the lower right one is the colour match and it's horrible and nothing like the cushion. I also got some British racing green gloss to paint the front door while it's still sunny.

For today I went for the 1960s look - BIG hair (thanks to my dust it powder) and winged eyeliner/nude lipstick look. I wore it with my Primark floral summer dress, Marks and Spencer black cardie and opaque black tights

As you can see I've been playing with the "cross processes" and 60s filters on Picasa!! How did you enjoy the sunshine? I'm on holiday for a week now so look out for lots of blogging and a GIVEAWAY on Monday!

Nails of the day: Neon Nonsense

I was feeling a bit adventurous this morning when I looked at my neon nails so whipped out the liquid eyeliner and drew on some strange designs. Sadly although it looks great in my head, these images often don't come out my hand so apologies that they're not very professional!

The colour is China Glaze "Pool Party" and I used liquid eyeliner with a China Glaze topcoat!

What do you think of neon nails?

Review: Bourjois Health Mix Concealer

Today I'm review the frankly fantastic Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer

It comes in a tiny tube and may seem like a lot at around £6 but a little goes a long way!

It's a thick cream which covers up and reflects most sins!

The formula is pale enough for my very pale skin tone using no 51 and has light reflecting properties making it good for under eye circles.

Here's the results:

Without

With

As you can see it really brightens up the whole eye area and makes a great base for foundation

And here's the comparison, Left side with concealer, right side without

 With                                                                 Without

And with flash, you can see how light reflecting the concealer is on the left eye!

Sorry the lighting isn't the best in the last 2 photos, it was getting very dark!

Overall - 5/5! The BEST undereye concealer I've ever used! Really helps me look awake and well when I'm really tired in the mornings and is just amazing! GET IT!

Blog Loving Interview -

Today's blogger is Aimee from AimeemcKenna.com

Hello! Please introduce yourself and your blog
Hi, my name is Aimee McKenna and I am the creator and author of aimeemckenna.com which is a beauty blog that gives product reviews and make-up tutorials.

When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging back in February 2011. To be honest, there wasn’t really a particular reason why I started, I just have always had a huge passion for make-up and I have always wanted to be a make-up artist from a young age so I just wanted to see what would happen, and it has proved to be really successful.

What is your favourite feature on your blog/what posts are you most proud of?
My favourite feature of my blog is my tutorials. It takes a lot of time and effort to do these but I think they are a really good way of sharing tips and ideas whilst telling your viewers which products you use. I am always looking at people’s make-up and I hate it when people do things wrong such as wearing too much foundation or mascara, or their eye-liner isn’t quite right. So I think by sharing my techniques, I feel satisfied that I have made the resources to help people. I also love sharing looks I have created or looks that are on trend.

Describe your style
I’d say my style is definitely unique compared to other girls my age. I believe there is nothing more beautiful than somebody’s natural beauty, meaning I believe that people don’t need to have bright orange skin or have hugely long nails to look beautiful. I do think that the media does put a false image onto young girls in the way that they see female icons in magazines etc, and they try to be like them, yet they don’t realise what they are see is not actually real, it’s just the misleading art of airbrushing – we all want what we can’t have. So although I have a style in this way, I also love anything vintage or retro. I love Cath Kidston and anything from a 1950’s era because I feel that it’s really feminine and glamorous.

What’s your favourite item of clothing

My favourite item of clothing is a chiffon top I bought in Dunnes (an Irish department store). I love it because it because it’s so pretty. Another favourite item of clothing is a dress I bought form Dorothy Perkins

What is your favourite highstreet shop and who is your favourite designerClothes wise, I’d say my favourite high street shop is Dorothy Perkins because I tend to fit their clothes really well. They are also very feminine and pretty. However I do love other shops such as Republic, Topshop and sometimes New Look. In high street shops, I don’t just look at the clothes to decide whether I like it, it has to have a good layout. I hate shops that have clothes everywhere and look like a jumble sale. I have favourite shop for different items of clothing, for jumpers and tops, I’d go to republic, for shoes I go to New Look, for jeans I go to Topshop and for dresses I go to Dorothy Perkins. My favourite clothes designer has got to be Gilly Hicks because it’s very feminine but quite vintage at the same time. However I also love looking at Yves Saint Laurent dresses and Chanel clothing in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. For make-up my favourite high street shop is Debenhams or Superdrug. I can walk into to one of those stores and easily spend at least £40. Both shops have most of my favourite brands of make-up. My favourite make-up brands are Sleek, Mac, Avon, Dior and The Body Shop.

Apart from blogging, what do you do?
Apart from blogging, I also sing, shop and go to the gym as well as work on theatre productions – obviously doing make-up.

What is your dream?
My dream is for my blog to become even more successful and to always have a happy life. I want to be able to look back at my life in fifty years time and be proud to say I was successful, not as in rich or famous but I want to be able to feel satisfied and not make any mistakes I’m not proud of.

Tell me a secret?
I don’t really have that many secrets, I’m not really a secretive person, but there is something I don’t tend to share a lot with people. When I was little, probably about three years old, I used to go into my mum’s room and put on all her make-up. But I didn’t know what to do with any of it, I used to put purple eye shadow on my cheeks and I used to get lipstick all over the room. I feel really bad now, I couldn’t begin to imagine how I would feel if one of my children ever did that to my make-up. Sorry mummy x

Outfit and Makeup - St Patrick's Party!

Happy St Patrick's Day (for Saturday) - did you do anything? This is the first year I've done anything to mark such a huge drinking occasion so I thought I'd go green!

Here's my face of the night

I wore:
  • Bourjois Flower Perfection Foundation in shade 51 - Vanilla
  • Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer under eyes and on lips
  • 17 Photo Flawless Primer (review here)
  • 17 Solo Eyeshadow in Green Glimmer
  • Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon in Green on waterline
  • L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara (review here)
Here's a close-up of my green eye makeup. I love that it's the same colour as my eyes!

For the occasion I made some green cupcakes! (also do you like the cushion in the background, I bought that this weekend too!)

And for the night I wore my Zara green bell dress (which you can see in more detail on my First Hen Do Post)

What did you get up to?

Review: Anatomicals "Stop cracking up" lip balm

I bought Anatomicals "Stop Cracking Up" lipbalm last weekend at Boots and I LOVE IT!!!
(it comes in a green box if you can't find it!)

I have used hundreds of lipbalms in my life. I was on Roaccutaine as a teenager which made my lips very dry, and as a result I'd bite them and I think I have left them scarred and developed biting my lips as a habit. My lips tend to look very dry unless I have lipstick on, and even after using a normal lipbalm or Vaseline, my lips return to looking like this within an hour.

After using this lipbalm for 2 days, this is how my lips look 2 hours after application of Stop Cracking Up. As you can see it's a huge difference!

The texture of the balm is more like a gloss, and it stays on your lips for a long time, even after drinking and eating. Even when it's worn off, I find my lips feel moisturised and stay looking "plump" without the deep grooves for a long time. After using this for a few days, I feel my lips are finally repairing themselves, I'm not biting (so much) because of the texture of the gloss.

I don't think it really has a flavour but others say it's floral-y smelling. It doesn't really have a taste either.

Overall - best lipbalm I have ever tried!!! For £2.49 it's a bargain and you MUST get it!

Review: 17 Photo Flawless Primer

I bought the 17 Photo Flawless primer at the weekend after the Benefit assistant recommended it to help hold my foundation on my greasy skin

The primer comes in a really small tube and I paid £4.99 for it

The formula is super-silky and spreads well, minimising pores and giving your skin a great smooth canvas which is easy to apply makeup to

So in the fairness of testing, and being an obsessive scientist, I risked looking stupid and applied primer to just one half of my face, and applied my normal makeup over the top. The right hand side of my face (so the left on these images) is covered in primer

8am - makeup application

On the primer side, you can see the pores are minimised, my foundation has applied well

12pm - lunchtime

By now I'm feeling a little shiney - I'd have applied powder by now but because I'm testing, I haven't

And each side in detail...

I look slightly shinier on the non-primer side I'd say but I don't think there is a noticable difference. I asked a colleage and she said she couldn't see a difference. HOWEVER, the spot on the primer side is still covered (you can't see the red, it's near my ear!) so that's a bonus.

4.30pm - home time

So at home time, in my head I am dripping with grease but is that the reality?

I am looking really greasy on both sides, all my foundation and concealer has shifted and melted off my face and I'm screaming out for powder!

The verdict
For a night out, this primer is great, the way it diffuses light and holds concealer on for a few hours. Photos from my night out last week shows it does really well with camera flashes and lighting

Therefore I'd say that on a budget this primer is a good buy for people who find their makeup slips off. Combined with a good pressed powder this could help your foundation last. However, if you're after a good primer for work and not needing top-ups of powder then this isn't something I'd recommend.

I wouldn't recommend this primer because as you can see from the photos, there is little to no difference between wearing and not wearing primer!

Rating (remembering that I've never tried a primer) 2/5 - this won't be becoming an essential part of my beauty routine

Wednesday Wants!

It's Wednesday meaning the midweek blues are kicking in and I'm itching to shop! Here's a (modest) list of wants this week and some eye candy!

I love the transparent handbag trend but I carry so much junk in my bag such as chocolate wrappers, highlighters, old tissues etc, so I like this version from ASOS

It's £35 from ASOS

Continuing my love for birds, I love this hairband which is sadly out of stock at the moment

It's £6 from Rare

My dream dog is a Welsh Terrier so I was delighted to see this necklace by Cath Kidston on ASOS

It's £20 from ASOS

And finally, I've always wanted a Links of London bracelet

It's so expensive at £195 from Links of London, but I have expensive taste!

What's on your love list?
