NOTD: Black Matt and Shine French Manicure

I bought a matt topcoat a while ago from 17 at Boots but have only ever used it once, so thought I'd try something last night. I love French manicures but am getting tired of the nude and white look so thought I'd do a matt and shine manicure with black.

Here's what I got (and it was really hard to photograph!)

I KNOW I have nailvarnish on my skin - that was the matt topcoat and I couldn't see it until the photo highlighted it. I'll have to buy some nailvarnish remover liquid as I only have the pads.

I did this with Bourjois So Laque nail enamel in Noir de Chine for the black, 17 Matt topcoat and China Glaze no chip topcoat for the shiney tips.

What do you think?

Plus tomorrow the Lauren Loves Advent calendar will be starting. Keep your eyes peeled for giveaways and Christmas treats.

Review: Barry M Dazzle Dust in Pink Gold (dd3)

When I saw the Children in Need Rocks concert on TV a while back, I saw Fearne Cotton and knew I NEEDED to copy her look

Source

So I ran to Superdrug (see my haul post) and bought a nude-gold toned dazzle dust. Looking at this picture of Fearne again I realise I bought the wrong colour and finish completely so if anyone knows something like this let me know.

Anyway continuing with the review, The dazzle dust looks like this:

It looks a lot pinker in the pot than it does on the skin! The packaging is really nice, a solid glass pot with a plain lid. The opening is big enough for a brush and it hasn't got one of those annoying shaker lids on where you have to tap some out somehow without getting it EVERYWHERE!

It looks like this on:

As you can see it's much more a nude pink with gold in when spread on the skin than just a pink like the tub shows. However it's no Fearne Cotton colour!

I applied this to bare skin without vaseline or anything to hold it on, to give you an idea of the true colour. If you wanted it more like the pot colour you could use a base or primer such as vaseline to hold on the powder but I wanted a more gold look. It has great lasting power and lasted all day without drifting down my face which I was impressed with. I applied it with a smudging brush to get this look, then applied liquid eyeliner on top.

Overall - 4.5/5 - one of the best shimmer eyeshadows I've worked with and has great lasting power. I'd definitely buy another colour (I'm looking at another nude! Maybe Mink) but not in this particular colour again.

Review: Cherry Bag Handbag Organiser

Have you ever heard of a handbag organiser? I hadn't but I was contacted to review a Cherry Handbag Organiser from Stephen Oliver I thought I'd give it a try.

The Cherry Handbag Organizer is made from a strong, flexible, water-resistant material that holds its shape and is easy to clean. The outside pouches can hold cell phones, sunglasses, etc and the side pockets can hold business cards and miscellaneous bits and pieces that usually collect at the bottom of a bag.    The large central compartment can be used to hold a purse, keys, cosmetics,  tissues, etc . For a quick touch-up there is a short pocket on the outside for a favourite lipstick)as well as longer ones for pens, or lip gloss) .   There are also ‘secret’ pockets on the inside for those discreet items,  in total there are 12 pouches that provide enough space for all the essentials in your bag.

It has so many pockets! It's amazing. I can fit my huge purse in, an A5 pad, loads of pens and it has a perfect pocket for a lippie!

It is also really great for handbags without pockets or dividers in. Take my Louis Vuitton Speedy for example. Normally it looks like this inside

It's roomy and I can't find what I'm looking for half the time so the organiser is perfect for it!

And it helps a softer handbag hold its shape when full up of strange items.

I have the medium sized one which sells for £17 - I think it's totally worth it and would make an amazing present to anyone who loves handbags.

Im fact I have a little story to share and I'm sure Lisbeth won't mind! (Hey Lisbeth!) On Sunday we were at a training day and Lisbeth was not having a good morning, she'd forgotten her other handbag and not swapped to her current one properly resulting in her not having things that she always carries around. Later in McDonalds (yes I had a cheeky chicken burger), I pulled out my organiser and plonked it on the table and the girls were amazed! I think Lisbeth has one on her Xmas list now!

It's available from here

They See Me Hauling... Big Beauty Haul and gift idea for tweenagers

I haven't been shopping in FOREVER so when let loose today I went a bit mad  I think.

What Did I get? - Andrea Fulerton Gemstone Overcoat, Barry M Pink Iridescent, Barry M Limited Edition Nail Effects, Nail Stickers, Quickies, Barry M Dazzle Dust in Pink Gold, Sleek Lipstick in Cherry, Allura Decorative Nail Art Kit and Lypsyls

I'll swatch each product I bought in due course, but here's some close ups for now

I got these nail stickers and Quickies for a pound each in Savers. I love that shop!

Barry M Pink Iridescent - this caught my eye while I was looking at the Barry M stand. I don't think it will come out like this on the nail though. I'll show you later.

Andrea Fulerton Gemstone Overcoat - I also saw this in Superdrug and it caught my eye. I'm definitely going to have to try this over natural nails and over colours.

This is Sleek True Colour lipstick in Cherry. I really wanted the new Cranberry one I've seen other bloggers mention but sadly it's only available in a gift set with a blusher and a kohl pencil I don't want. The kohl pencil is berry coloured for god's sakes - who wants red lined eyes?! Yeah I love the "I've been crying this Christmas" look.

Finally this huge nail art kit was a pound from the Pound Shop! Amazing! It will be fab for the little girl I babysit for.

Talking of presents for teenagers and tweenagers, I have a couple of girls I look after who are getting to awkward ages so I thought I'd make them a "treat box" for Christmas with lots of cheap things in they'll love

Inside the box: Nail kit, glow stick bracelets, chocolates, diamante earphones - all the pound shop, nail stickers and beads from Savers. I also got one girl a book token in hers as she loves reading too.

I decorated the box myself in wrapping paper but so you can open it (don't ask why - too much time on my hands but it's really cute

1. Find an ugly box

If it's a box that comes apart and goes flat - even better! This one sadly doesn't.

2. Glue round all the sides

3. Stick on paper and there you go!

 lovely!

BIC Soleil Competition - Just Live!

Disclaimer - this is a Sponsored Post but none the less I thought it would be interesting information for you girls

BIC Soleil are telling women everythere to "just live"! Across their facebook page they are having a massive "Just Live Your Christmas Party" Competition with weekly giveaways and a grand prize at the very end. Prizes include a day out with Dorothy Perkins stylists, a stay in London and cash for a night out, as well as smaller giveaway prizes!

To get involved, just head to the BIC Facebook page HERE and click like. Then answer their weekly question to have a go at winning. Also the facebook page includes tips from others and interviews with beauty bloggers (with me coming up!) who will share their tips for life and Christmas!

The celebrations are to promote the new  Shaver grip technology which Body Language expert Dr Jane McCarney says can reflect our personalities! From the descriptions of how you grip your shaver, which one are you!?

‘Talk to the Palm Queen’ – you hold your shaver with four fingers on top and it acts as an extension of the hand with the tip of the shaver resting in the palm of your hand. This grip allows you to shave quickly and efficiently and reflects your direct, driven and pragmatic approach. You like to be on the go and enjoy being active and juggling lots of things at once. You don’t have time for high maintenance beauty regime but you always look well dressed and prepared for whatever life throws at you whether at work or at play. Perfect BIC® Soleil® shaver: Bella

’The Pincer Princess’ – you normally hold your shaver between the top index finger, just like you would your tweezers and favour taking time over your beauty regime and being very precise reflecting your perfectionist approach to everything you do. You love nothing better than girlie nights in pampering you and your friends, whilst having a good gossip. You are known for your feminine style and your friends consider you as a great mate. Perfect BIC® Soleil® shaver: Miss Soleil

The Feather-Light Lady – you tend to hold the shaver at the end of the handle with your fingertips, a bit like a make-up brush and use a sweeping, smooth action. Your shaving stoke mimics your soft and gentle nature. You are happy to remain behind the scenes and are imaginative. You are a trustworthy and loyal friend and partner and have an air of sophistication. You like to spend time on your beauty routine and you look like you take care in your appearance. Perfect BIC® Soleil® shaver: Lady

The Pencil Painter – You hold your shaver with the thumb and middle finger and guide it with the index finger from the top, much like a pencil or paint brush. You are independent, free-thinking and known for your creativity. Sensual and intuitive, you instinctively know what goes together and looks good – be it colour, texture or shape. Your sense of style is distinctive and unique, and you enjoy always looking your best. Perfect BIC® Soleil® shaver: Scent

Apparently I'm a "talk to the palm queen" so should use the Bella, which is funny because they're the ones I always pick up in Boots (no kidding, I can't bring myself to fork out more for the other brands, but I also never buy the really cheap ones because they look like they'd shred me!).

I'm not sure how psychologically accurate this is, and I'm sure my colleagues wouldn't want me to use this test as an assessment with the patients I work with, but it's a good bit of fun!

Anyway good luck with the competition girls and head over to the facebook page to see my interview pop up soon! UPDATE - my interview is live! x
