Nails of the Day - Ciate Big Yellow Taxi

I was lucky enough to be sent these two gorgeously vivid Ciate Paint Pots this week in "Big Yellow Taxi" (the yellow one) and "The Glossip" (the coral one). These two are so bright and perfect for the summer!

Today's nails are Big Yellow Taxi

My picture is rubbish!  But isn't the bottle absolutely gorgeous?!

And the swatch...

Excuse the cuticles...

Isn't it the most wonderful, luminous yellow!? It's fabulous and would look amazing if I had the slightest hint of a tan. Definitely one for the holiday hold-all in 2 weeks.

The application is easy as the brush is very wide, although it does dry a little streaky so 2 coats are needed. However I found it quite opaque and no visable nail line which is good. I have already managed to chip my index finger (I had a fight with a pair of skinny jeans in Primark - the size 8's I couldn't get over my heel, and the size 10's which I could get over my heel were too big for me on the waist... GRR)

Anyway if you covert this sunshine yellow to brighten up this rubbish summer, it's £9 from Ciate

Lauren's Blog Loving with Eyelining Obsessions

Hello, welcome to another edition of Lauren's Blog Loving. Today I'm delighted to feature the gorgeous...

Claire from Eyelining Obsessions

Hello! Please introduce yourself and your blog

Hello back! My name is Claire and I’m a makeup addict. My blog Eyelining Obsessions is dedicated to this obsession with the majority of posts being reviews of beauty products with the odd eye or nail look thrown in.

When did you start blogging and why?

I started blogging in February 2010. I can’t for the life of me remember why but I was Googling for reviews of the George at Asda nail polishes and I stumbled across Lipglossiping. I must have read hundreds of her posts and then read everything on her blog roll. By the time I’d finished I had started my own!

I started because it was so exciting to me that there were so many people all over the world who were as interested in cosmetics as I was. It’s a wonderful thing to be a part of that community.

Totally agree! What is your favourite feature on your blog/what posts are you most proud of?

I think any of the posts where I have succeeded in making people laugh make me proud. My sense of humour is very dry but I’m always being sarcastic and trying to be funny in real life. I like it when it comes across in my writing.

Describe your style

If I ever develop any I will let you know! Seriously I am the least stylish woman in Scotland. I love vintage clothes but don’t own any. I went through a phase in high school where I wore brightly coloured stilettos every day for a good couple of years but other than that I am incredibly dull. I am a bit of a pencil skirt fiend and tend to wear them a lot for work.

What’s your favourite item of clothing

The temptation is to say my wedding dress but I don’t think it counts as I won’t ever get to wear it again! I suppose it would have to be my Irregular Choice cat ankle boots. I so rarely get a chance to wear them but they are fun and quirky and that really appeals to me. I try not to take myself too seriously and these are right up my alley. (Feel free to hate these, many do)

They're so cute! I love Irregular Choice. What is your favourite highstreet shop and who is your favourite designer

I loathe shopping. There, I said it. I’m female and I cannot stand shopping. Clothes shopping especially bothers me as I never know what I want and nothing ever fits. I’m a size 6 (UK) on top and a 10 on bottom so it’s a pain to find things that accommodate me! I think Dorothy Perkins do the best clothes for my body shape. Places like TopShop seem to think that women have no arses so I never shop there!

Honestly I couldn’t tell you enough about any current designers to pick a favourite. I have a Julien MacDonald dress that I love.

Apart from blogging, what do you do?

I work in private health care although I’m doing a night school course to get my Human Resources qualification. I wish I’d just done that instead of getting my degree! I live with my husband, a cat, two bearded dragons, two axolotls, two more fish tanks and four Giant African Land Snails. Mad I know.

Sounds like a zoo! What is your dream?

Doing well in a career that I love. I’m a hard worker but it’s so much easier when you love what you do! I’m trying to take the steps to make that dream come true.

Tell me a secret?

Sometimes I have to Google the acronyms that people use on Twitter because I have no idea what people are talking about. FML? You have no idea how long it took me to work that one out. I’m know, I know, 24 going on 74.

Haha! Thank you for taking part in Lauren's blog loving!

First sneek pictures at my new home

As some of you will remember from yesterday, I'm buying my first house and making it over from Shabby to Chic!

Well now I've published some preliminary pictures of the home so if you're interested, mosey on over to my other blog, Lauren Makes a Home or...

How to find stolen blog photos!

I spotted this article on Lacquerized last night...  She was telling us how the new google images can show who's nicked our photos for their blogs.

So anyway I tried it out thinking nobody would copy me... turns out people have nabbed my pictures! The most shocking being this offender...

Look familiar? That's right, it's my image of minx nails, with my watermark cropped out. (to see the original article click here)

The ironic thing... that article was about how you don't need to go to salons to get minx nails done.

Thanks to Lacquerized for pointing it out and I'd love to know what you unearth!

My Mad Month - Why I've been off the radar

It never rains but it pours
Wait for a bus for hours, then three come at once
Everything happens at the same time

There are so many metaphors I could use to describe the past month but I'll tell you why I've been so busy recently by way of an explaination for why my blog hasn't been posting so frequently recently.

1. I'm buying a house

Check out my new blog - Lauren makes a Home to see more - I'll have the first pictures for you tonight or tomorrow of the outside of my new shabby house.

2. I have a very ill family member

I don't really want to disclose much about this to be honest, but needless to say we're all very worried and can't wait for this whole ordeal to be over for her.

3. It's been my birthday

my wonderful colleague Claire made me this cake :-)

4. I have a big job interview next week

For a job I REALLY want! It would involve a lot of commuting and much more spent on petrol but it'd be so worth it and fulfilling. Fingers crossed I get it

5. 3 weeks today I'll be in Thailand

So anyway there's the reasons my blog might not be as lively as usual and I hope everyone can forgive me for it. I have lots of inspiration still, but just no time to write as bigger things come up. Don't worry though, we have a full host of people ready to fill the slot when I'm away in Thailand so hopefully you can be introduced to new, amazing bloggers who you weren't aware of before.

p.s. Recently I was selected to join Handpicked Media (as you will see from the badge to the right). I would love all you feedback on the adverts and if they're popping up/annoying/what you think really. I was adverse to adverts before but I thought I might give them a trial as part of the Handpicked scheme.

Hi, let me introduce myself. I’m Sophie from Country Girl Does Norfolk. I write a blog based on fashion, food and foliage. I do mostly outfit posts and today I’m sharing my take on how to wear multiple patterns within one look..

Mixing prints is a great trend. I am embracing it, not only because it means I can make more outfits from my wardrobe but also because its fun and bold.

You can go all out with clashing

Ok, so clashing is fun, but its not for everyone.

How about one obvious print and then a more subtle pattern?

A monochrome pattern, or very thin stripes or a pale polka dot can look like a block colour, so they can ‘calm down’ a look.

Or you could go with two subtle patterns. They may look like block colours, but take a closer look and you’ll see I’m wearing polka dots, stripes, florals, leopard and checks here!

My personal favour print mixing look has to be when I wore my leopard tunic with my floral skirt and they totally co-ordinated. Unexpected result!

So feel free to drop by to my blog Country Girl Does Norfolk and catch up with me! I don’t take myself too seriously and love to see new faces on my blog. I hope maybe I’ve given you some food for thought and maybe some inspiration to try something new.

Lauren's Blog Loving with... Lady of the Lane

This week we have

Charlie from Lady of the Lane

Hello! Please introduce yourself and your blog

Hi! I’m Charlie and my blog is at Lady of the Lane and is for the most part a beauty products review site.

When did you start blogging and why?

I’ve always, (well for at least 15 years) had online journals but I started blogging originally to rant about the Daily Mail (don’t bother looking back through my blog as I deleted the posts!) but I got distracted by shiny pretty things really early on and started talking about make up! I had absolutely no idea there were other beauty bloggers out there so I was surprised I wasn’t as original as I thought I was!

What is your favourite feature on your blog/what posts are you most proud of?

My favourite feature is Beauty Bloggers Best Things where every Thursday another beauty blogger shares all their favourite products and routines with my readers. I love reading it although it does mean I have a huge list of things waiting to be tried now based on their recommendations. As for my most proud moments, well I do love doing posts on new Nars collections, loads of photos, swatches and just generally good fun, although they take me so long to do!

Describe your style (and include photos if you like)

I don’t have any style…I just wear whatever I like! I’ve always been this way, when I was a teen I couldn’t decide If I was a rock chick, and indie kid or sporty and I’ve always loved glamour and I’m still that way now…one day I’m in huge heels and a dress, the next day leggings and a baggy sweater.

What’s your favourite item of clothing (and a photo if you like)

My favourite item of clothing… it just has to be skinny jeans. I have about five pairs… I wear them with strappy tops, big jumpers, for nights out with heels and a pretty top, or with knee high boots and a jumper in the winter. I just love them!

What is your favourite highstreet shop and who is your favourite designer

My favourite High Street shop is probably Zara… classic timeless items of clothing and just about affordable!

Apart from blogging, what do you do?

I’m a mum to two kids, a 2 year old and a 4 year old and that keeps me incredibly busy, but as well as that I’m just starting up my own business as a Mobile Nails Service but I’m right at the very beginning of that journey!

What is your dream?

My dream? To move house to somewhere nicer, succeed in my new career and earn plenty of money!

Tell me a secret?

I really hate Superdrug. I just hate it! I can’t explain it, it’s irrational. There’s just nothing in there I like and it always feels a bit skanky (obviously I can only talk about my local store and probably not all Superdrugs are the same!).

Thank you for taking part in Lauren Loves… blogger interview.

Thank you for having me!

The birthday post!

It's my birthday today! I have turned the age of 23! A very scary, very grown up age. I've spent my birthday at work today which was fun, being a July baby, I've never been at school for my birthday so this is my first birthday with people around!

It's strange, now I'm 23 but I still feel the same as I always have done...

What I thought about when I was 3

What I think about now I'm 23ok so maybe not the barbies but fashion!

Anyway I've had a lovely day and was spoilt as always!

I wore this gorgeous Models Own nailvarnish in Magenta Devine - the perfect pink glitter nail varnish

I was spoilt by my parents and lovely boyfriend

I got a kindle! I'm still learning to use it but so far I really love it!

My boyfriend got me the kindle cover and these charms for my bracelet - a graduation hat for my graduation and a cat that is on a hinge, so when you tip it, it goes in the bin!!

My colleagues got me a really cute makeup bag and these 4 Barry M crackle polishes. I've never tried a crackle polish so will look forwards to experimenting with these.

OOTD and my first hen do (pictures of naughtyness!)

Last night I went on my first even hen do! It was so much fun. I only actually knew the hen but her future sisters-in-law and her best friend were so friendly I had a great time.

Firstly here's what I wore

This green lantern skirt dress was from Zara last month and I got it for £29.99. It's not online anymore but might be in store? Glow bracelets curtosy of the maid of honour

And here's the gorgeous hen, Claire!

It was a fab night. First we were handed out sheets of dares... (click them to see them a lot bigger and read the dares

And here is us doing dares!

1. Get a signature from a man somewhere on your body. Points go to Claire here

2. Get a photo of you kissing a bald man's head. Points here to the stunning Kaitee

3. Get an item of male clothing. Amazingly the maid of honour (who's boobs you can see here) managed to convince a man to give her his pants!!

4. Pinch a lady's bum. Points to me here!

5. Persuade a man to buy you a drink. Points here go to the hen.

Therefore the winner was Claire!

I had a fantastic night, and I hope all the best to Claire for her wonderful wedding next month!

Hair Bow Bun - HOTD

Did anyone else see Imogen from Bubble Dreams' Hair Bow Bun tutorial this week? It was so inspiring I decided to copy it myself and here's the results!

I love this hair do! It's so cartoon-y cute and was really easy to do. I wore it for work because it can be very neat. Here's the back

Here's how Imogen did it - hers is obviously thicker as it's done with extentions and mine is my own hair!

And if you want to do it yourself, here's her how to video.

Kiss everLASH MD Eyelash Enhancing Serum – The Results

I’ve been sent the Kiss everLASH MD Eyelash Enhancing Serum and been using it for a few weeks now. It is another eyelash growth serum which claims to strengthen eyelashes and help them grow for longer, fuller lashes in 4-6 weeks.

It contains:

  • Peptide and nucleotide blend – Keratin boosting peptide promotes the growth of healthier lashes.

  • Vitamin B3 , Vitamin P, Pro-vitamin B5 – Conditions and moisturises lashes and stimulates lash growth.

  • Gingko Leaf Extract - Contains high level of bio-flavonoids which stimulates lash growth.

  • Hydrolyzed Silk – Forms moisture-retentive films that protects and moisturises lash cuticles.

  • Abyssine – Marine extract that reduces irritation and helps protects new lash growth from sun damage

The serum is applied using an eyeliner style brush

You apply it at night to clean eyes, running it along the top lashes. I’m finding it really easy to apply, although the first few times I did get it in my eyes and it stung. I’ll show you my naked eyes before I started the treatment as a before

eyes after

Note the after photo was taken BEFORE I dyed my eyelashes the other day, so these are my natural lashes

This photo is the result of using it for 6 weeks as recommended and not rubbing my eyes at all.

My take on the results – I think my eyelashes do look darker and thicker,  and possibly fractionally longer? They definitely feel less crispy or unhealthy and also I think look glossier so maybe it is working.  Boots sell it for £34.99 here and although that is expensive, there is a large amount which will last 6 months at least. Personally, having soft, glossy eyelashes isn’t something I have always wanted in my life so I don’t know that I’d buy another tube. I think you can see the improvement in my bottom lashes which look a bit more dense but I’m not sure that it’s worth the £35 price tag?

What are your thoughts?
